It’s a great way for players and coaches to increase their rule knowledge; plus for those that have hung up their bib, why not pick-up a whistle – it’s a great way to stay involved!
The good news is, to get started all you need to bring is a bit of enthusiasm and a passion for the game - we’ll take care of rest and give you the tools and support you need to become an umpire.

Umpire Request Guidelines and Recommendations
Umpire Payment Guidelines
- New Zealand Umpire: $20
- Zone Award Umpire: $15
- Centre Award: $10
Recommended Umpire Qualification or relative experience for Grades
Saturday Open grade: Premier Grade - NZ Umpire; Premier Reverse Grade - Zone Award; A, B, C, D Grades: Minimum New/Player Umpire Module
Thursday Open grade: A Grade- Zone Award; B, C, D Grade- Minimum New/Player Umpire Module
Secondary School grades: Premier Grade - Zone Award; A Grade - Centre Award; B, C, D Grade - Minimum New/Player Umpire Module
Intermediate grade: Premier Grade - Centre Award; A Grade - Centre Award, B, C, D Grades - Minimum New/Player Umpire Module
Future Ferns Y 5 & 6: 6v6 umpire module
