Netball New Zealand have minimum fitness standards for various Awards and selection for tournaments.
Representing a national organisation comes with a responsibility to uphold the high standards of the award and maintaining a fitness level is one of these.
To attain NZ Umpire Awards and/or to be selected for some tournaments you must have met a set standard for a fitness test.
- Netball NZ National Umpire Squad: 16.1
- Netball NZ Open Champs: 15.1
- Netball NZ Secondary Schools Champs: 14.5
- Netball NZ U18 Champs: 14.5
- NZ B Award or NZ C Award: 14.3
- All other umpires (recommended): 13.2
You are welcome to attend fitness tests if you would like to see where your fitness level is at and/or to learn how to do them before you need to meet a standard.
Fitness testing deadlines each year for screening and endorsement of New Zealand Umpire Awards are:
- 15 March
- 1 June
- 1 August (for selection to NZ Open Champs)
- 1 September
All umpires wishing to be appointed to NNZ events must provide current Yo-yo Test results in accordance with the table
above. Current means within two weeks of the fitness testing deadline.

Cost: FREE if you are registered on the HCNC Umpire Education Pathway in the current year or $10 per test for umpires from other Centres
