Zone Award is for those who are wanting to umpire higher level games.
You may have aspirations to umpire premier reserve and premier games and/or attend RepresentativeTournaments and Regional Championships
Zone Award is made up of two components
Zone Theory
- Pass an online exam - faciliated 2 x per year by Netball NZ
Zone Award
- Coaching by Umpire Coaches
- Screening by assessors
- Practical on a 40-minute game
Umpires wanting to sit their Zone Theory exam are strongly encouraged to register into the Zone Theory Sessions.
These sessions will cover all of the material that will be in the exam. Those that have done the sessions previously have a significantly higher pass rate than those who don't.
Please note: Umpires from ANY CENTRE ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND these sessions

Registration Includes:
- 6 tutoring sessions of 2 hours
- Theory Resource and previous exams
- Netball New Zealand Zone theory exam registration fee
- The online exam is a maximimum of 90 minutes and is a multi-choice/drag-and-drop exam
- Your theory tutor will help you register for the exam.
- Coaching by HCNC Umpire Coaches for up to 2 seasons
- Free participation in HCNC Fitness Testing

Once you have achieved your Zone Theory you can work towards completing the Zone Award.
All umpires wanting to work towards their Zone Award will need to register in the Zone Award Umpire Pathway Programme.

Prerequisites:

An Umpire Coach will observe you during games and help you with how you can improve your umpiring.
The Umpire Coach will also provide feedback and and give you some items to work on towards your assessment. They will also let you know when you have been assessed.
To receive umpire coaching you will need to sign in at the Registration Office each week to let us know when and where your games are.
