Skill Session Information

Each week/session will have a specific focus. The objective of each will be achieved through activities and games to develop fundamental Netball skills.

Week 1

Focus: Movement, Taking off, and Stopping with an emphasis on Stable Body Position (SBP). These are important skills to learn as players need to be able to take off quickly and also stop quickly so they don't step during a game.

Objective: Take off strongly as you run to meet the ball, pulling the ball in to ensure possession and to stop efficiently in a Stable Body Position

Week 2

Focus: Ball Skills and Different Passing Techniques. Being able to catch and pass a ball with a variety of techniques. This will allow the players to get the ball down the court efficiently and towards the goal.

Objective: To enhance the player's ball control and develop a variety of passing options.

Week 3

Focus: Movement and Footwork (Dodge & Pivot) with an emphasis on Change in Direction. Dodging and Pivoting allows players to get free for a pass and then pivot to see all of the options on the court. Dodging (Change in Direction) is the most efficient way of getting away from the defender.

Objective: To use a dodge in a restricted area to displace the defender, driving strongly into the free space to receive a pass.

Week 4

Focus: Defence/Defending and Intercepting. Being able to defend and intercept gives players a chance to regain posession of the ball when the opposition is on attack.

Objective: To develop the ability to stay close to the opponent and then defend the player with the ball.

Week 5

Focus: Attack, Shooting, and Target. If players can be good on attack, they can get the ball to the shooters who can then score points. Consistency in passing/shooting on target means the opposition is less likely to regain posession from us.

Objective: To encourage players to use the correct shooting technique to increase accuracy, confidence, and enjoyment.

Week 6

Focus: 5v5 Format through playing Netball. Week 6 will focus on implementing all 5 weeks of skills into a 5v5 Netball game.
